Building rich in historical and artistic heritage

Headquarters of the Fondazione Centro di Studi Alfieriani (Center for Alphierian Studies Foundation), formerly Centro Nazionale di Studi Alfieriani (National Center for Alphierian Studies), since 1937

Seat of Fondazione Eugenio Guglielminetti (Foundation), founded in 1998

Palazzo Alfieri

The medieval palace, owned by the Alfieri family already in the seventeenth century, was renovated by architect Benedetto Alfieri, Vittorio's cousin, in 1736.
The façade, according to the typical Alfieri layout, is characterized by a series of windows on the main floor, interrupted, in the central part, by the door surrounded by ashlar pilasters.
The trapezoidal internal courtyard, which welcomes the visitor at the entrance, is of great beauty and has a strong visual impact. The building overlooks Corso Alfieri.

Vittorio Alfieri

Vittorio Alfieri, a great Italian poet and tragedy of noble birth, was born in Asti in 1749 and lived in the palace until the age of five.
In 1758, he left the city to move to the Royal Academy of Turin, the city where he completed his studies and from which he then embarked on numerous trips to Europe. After dedicating himself to literature and theater, he became one of the best-known intellectuals on the cultural scene of the time.

The Alfieriano Museum

The recently renovated museum includes the rooms of the main floor where the poet’s apartment and the birth room were located, which retain the original furnishings. The visit continues in the other rooms where the main stages of the poet’s life, literary production and theatrical success are retraced.

Eugenio Guglielminetti Foundation

Palazzo Alfieri è anche sede della Fondazione Guglielminetti , scenografo astigiano. Palazzo Alfieri is also home to the Guglielminetti Foundation , scenographer from Asti.
