The Palace

Palazzo del Podestà (Podestà's Palace), probably erected in the thirteenth century, stands at the intersection of Via dei Cappellai and Via Incisa, and is the last surviving element of a valuable complex that extended up to via Cavour.
The building consists of a basement and three other floors above ground, two of thirteenth-century origin, while the third was built later.
The structure is typical of a strong house and looks like an imposing red brick building. The facade is characterized by the Asti decorations of the time: Cotto tile frieze and cotto and sandstone crease decoration of the round windows.

Seat of the Municipality

The building retains an important historical value: between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries it was in fact the seat of the municipality, the most important institutional building in the city.
The basement of the building was probably home to the municipal salt and grain warehouse. A thesis confirmed by the presence in those years of the market in the street contiguous to the south side of the building and its subsequent movement to Piazza San Secondo.
