Building dating back to the 14th century
Renovated in the Renaissance period
Seat of Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi (Conservatory)
The Structure of the Palace
The building was part of a larger building complex built in the Gothic style with brick and sandstone, dating back to the fourteenth century. In the Renaissance period, it was renovated to better reflect the taste of the time. It was during these works that the Renaissance-style windows and the internal portico were built.
The Asinari Family
The property belonged to the Asinari family, ancient family from Asti.
Since the Count had no male heirs, in 1620 he decided to leave his belongings to his eldest daughter, as long as the son-in-law assumed the name and coat of arms Asinari. When Aurelia Ottavia married knight Giovanni Antonio Verasis, he was invested with the title of Councilor of Asti and inherited all the possessions of the family. To honor the two families, the young count decided to decorate the columns of the internal portico with the coats of arms of the two families: Asinari and Verasis.
The Giovanni Verdi Music Institute
When Count Verasis Asinari left Asti, the building was inherited by the Guglielminetti family. The Palace was bought at auction by the Cassa di Risparmio di Asti in 1933 and donated to the City, which transformed it into the headquarters of the Civic Institute of Music Giovanni Verdi.
