In the evocative rooms and cellars of the 16th-century Palazzo Michelerio, archaeological finds and fossils found in the Asti area are exhibited.
The Museum Exhibitions
In the first part of the exhibition, the general concepts of paleontology are illustrated and, through the testimony of fossils, the main geo-paleontological events that determined the formation of the Asti area are described.
The Most Prestigious Finds
In the second part of the exhibition area, the museum houses a series of finds unique in the world: these are the remains of whales (mystics) and dolphins (odontoceti) attributable to the Pliocene era, ie between 5,3 and 1,8 million years ago, when the entire Po Valley was occupied by the sea.
Among the finds preserved in the museum one of the most relevant is the Whale of San Marzotto d'Asti which is a unique specimen in the world and still being studied today.
