The Saint Anastasius Complex

One of the jewels of the city of Asti is Complesso Sant'Anastasio (Saint Anastasius Complex), located in the Palazzo del Consiglio (Board Palace). The museum consists of a double space: The museum area and the archaeological site.
Its Romanesque crypt, which allows you to immerse yourself in a distant past, is a place of extreme beauty.

The Romanesque Crypt

Inside the complex of Sant'Anastasio (Saint Anastasius), we can find its prominent element: The Crypt dating back to the 11th century, divided into three small naves with cross vaults. Among the beauties inside, the most ancient nucleus stands out (11th century), with recovered capitals and columns from the Roman and early Middle Ages.

The Archaeological Layering of the Site

In the areas contiguous to the crypt, traces of Romanesque flooring dated around the 1st century AD are visible. and tombs from a period between the 7th and 10th centuries, the only evidence of the Lombard presence. In this area you can visit the remains of the Romanesque church (probably from 1100 AD), of the early medieval church and finally of the seventeenth-century church of Sant’Anastasio.

The museum of Sant’Anastasio

The museum contains numerous stone elements from both the site of Sant'Anastasio and the entire city area, dating back to the seventh and sixteenth centuries.
