The Ancient Charterhouse of Valmanera

The Certosa di Valmanera (Charterhouse of Valmanera) was founded in the 11th century by the Vallombrosan monks, and demolished at the beginning of the 19th century. The current building is in fact the result of a succession of dismantling and restoration over the centuries. The eighteenth-century structure has a high porch and large halls.
Around the middle of the twentieth century, the building was renovated and used as a museum and cultural space. Today it is home to one of the best known weaving workshops active in Italy: Arazzeria Scassa.

Ugo Scassa's Arazzeria (Tapestry Shop)

The Arazzeria (tapestry shop) was founded in 1957 by Ugo Scassa, one of the best master weavers in the world. The tapestry still produces works of contemporary art thanks to the encounter between modern sensitivity and a technique that has remained unchanged over the centuries.

The Art of Tapestries

The works are made entirely by hand thanks to the skilful work of the master weavers. Here the ancient art of the high heddle technique and the use of the highest quality wool, allow the master weavers to create special shading and incredible details.

The Exhibition of Large Tapestries

In order to create interest in this ancient weaving art, the Tapestry has been collaborating for some time with museums around the world. In addition to curating exhibitions, they collaborate in the creation of exhibition events, also carrying out consultancy and restoration activities.

The Arazzeria Scassa is an artisan excellence that creates works of the highest artistic value, so much so that they are exhibited in the largest museums in the world. For example in the seat of the Quirinal Palace or in the personal quarters of His Holiness in the Vatican City.
